These are guys that you can bring into your family. You've got all these bonuses but only a couple of missions left in which to use them.Īnother nice feature is the made men system. Also, by the time you manage to acquire all the crime rings, there isn't much point to them anymore. What's worse is that most of the best crime rings are completed early in the game. Some don't really seem very worth it at all while others take you from already being hard to kill to near god-like. Also, the bonuses you receive tend to feel very unbalanced. This really cuts down on the amount of time spent playing the game. This gives you a gameplay purpose into fighting for the different businesses and gives you a purpose for going after all businesses. After taking over all specified businesses, you get some sort of persistent bonus, so long as you maintain control of all those businesses. The feature that I am probably the most glad they added was the Crime Rings. This places limits on the amount of material possible in the game. That said, all 3 cities feel smaller than they should. There is much less repeat in the buildings with many of the indoors areas having far ranging sizes and layouts. They are far more detailed and feel much more interactive.

The first of the new gameplay features I do enjoy are the new city layouts. There are public officials that do give you better bonuses like a one time ability to call off the police or arresting a member of an opposing family, but I never found these useful as there always seemed like a better way to get out of a bad situation. It feels rather silly, and, with the exception of the occasional kill method on enemy made men, is rather pointless as the rewards don't amount to much. It's already a stretch to believe that a don would get personally involved in gang wars and threatening business owners, now he's walking up to random people on the streets helping them with various problems they have. They've added a favors system to the game. The cover system that was in the first game is still present, but unlike the first game where I was using it all the time, I never used it. The other part is that it is too easy to get headshots on enemies to instantly kill them, even those wearing armor and most enemy made men. Part of this may have to do with the fact that they got rid of a life meter and replaced it with a regenerating health system that is far more common today. Even without any made men supporting you or any crime ring bonuses (both touched on later) it feels like it is too hard to kill you and too easy to kill the enemies. It does feel a little bit better, but not enough to make a big note about.įrom a difficulty standpoint, it feels a bit too easy. If it wasn't for the game forcing you to obliterate the enemy families, which doesn't really have any real impact on the story, you could probably complete the game in just a handful of hours.įrom a controls standpoint, they are rather similar to the first game with a few tweaks. It won't turn you off of the game, but you will wish there was a bit more to it. Generally though, it all feels a bit shallow and under explained. Throughout the rest of the game, your criminal empire will eventually expand into Miami and finally back into Cuba, with a few tie-ins with the movie. Because of the events in Cuba at the beginning of The Godfather Part II movie, Aldo ends up dead (so ends the life of a mobster), and you are personally tasked by Micheal himself to take Aldo's place and run the Corleone operations in New York. You play as Dominic, the assistant to Aldo who is the player character in the first game and Micheal Corleone's Under-Boss. This said, for someone who is completely unfamiliar with both the previous game and the movies is going to have no clue what is going on. They did make some small changes to make the game fit in better, but generally these changes are smaller than the changes in the first one. Like the first game, this is the story behind the story of the movie. Personally, I really enjoyed it, but I can tell you right now that many people will not.
